Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in twelfth rib dimensions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in the size and morphology of the twelfth rib between male and female individuals. The twelfth rib is the shortest of the false ribs and contributes to the posterior and lateral boundaries of the abdominal region while providing attachment for muscles associated with the trunk. Knowledge of its dimensions is important for understanding skeletal variation and may provide useful anatomical information for clinical, anthropological, radiological, and forensic applications. The study will assess selected dimensions of the twelfth rib and determine whether measurable differences exist between male and female individuals within the study population. The specific objectives will include measuring the length, breadth, curvature, and other appropriate dimensions of the twelfth rib, documenting relevant morphological characteristics, comparing the measured dimensions between male and female groups, and identifying the measurements that demonstrate notable patterns of sexual variation. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study.
