Sexual Dimorphism in Tracheal Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in tracheal dimensions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in selected tracheal measurements between male and female participants. The trachea is a tubular structure of the respiratory system that conducts air from the larynx to the main bronchi and contributes to the maintenance of an effective airway. Knowledge of variations in its dimensions is important for understanding anatomical differences and may support airway assessment, interpretation of imaging findings, and clinical procedures involving tracheal intubation and respiratory management. The study will assess selected tracheal dimensions among male and female undergraduate students using appropriate standardized anatomical and imaging-based measurement procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the selected dimensions of the trachea, comparing tracheal measurements between male and female participants, identifying the extent of variation in the measured parameters, and determining whether observed differences in selected tracheal dimensions are statistically significant. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of male and female undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Tracheal dimensions will be obtained through appropriate imaging-based procedures and standardized anatomical landmarks, with measurements recorded using consistent assessment techniques. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate independent-group statistical tests will be used to compare the selected tracheal dimensions between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal differences in selected tracheal dimensions between male and female participants. It is recommended that sex-related anatomical variation be considered when evaluating tracheal dimensions and planning airway-related procedures, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader reference data for tracheal morphometry.
