Sexual Dimorphism in Sacral Base Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in sacral base dimensions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in the size and morphology of the sacral base between male and female individuals. The sacrum is an important component of the vertebral column and pelvic skeleton, contributing to the transmission of body weight from the spine to the pelvic girdle. The sacral base forms the superior part of the sacrum and has important relationships with the lumbar spine and pelvic structures, making its dimensions relevant to anatomical, anthropological, clinical, and forensic studies. The study will assess selected dimensions of the sacral base and determine whether measurable differences exist between male and female individuals within the study population. The specific objectives will include measuring the length, breadth, and other appropriate dimensions of the sacral base, documenting relevant morphological characteristics, comparing the measured dimensions between male and female groups, and identifying the measurements that demonstrate noticeable patterns of sexual variation. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of undergraduate students or suitable sacral osteological specimens will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Sacral base dimensions will be obtained using standardized osteological measurement procedures and appropriate measuring instruments.
