Sexual Dimorphism in Rectal Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in rectal dimensions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in selected anatomical measurements of the rectum between male and female participants. The rectum is the terminal portion of the large intestine and plays an important role in the storage and controlled elimination of fecal material. Knowledge of variations in rectal dimensions between sexes is important for understanding normal pelvic and gastrointestinal anatomy and may provide useful reference information for clinical, radiological, and surgical assessment of the rectum. The study will determine selected rectal dimensions among undergraduate students and compare the measurements between male and female participants. The specific objectives will include determining the mean rectal dimensions of the participants, assessing selected measurements such as rectal length and diameter where applicable, comparing the observed dimensions between male and female groups, and determining whether statistically significant differences exist between the groups. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of male and female undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Rectal dimensions will be assessed using an appropriate imaging-based or anatomical examination procedure, depending on the method employed for the study. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate independent-group inferential statistical tests will be used to compare rectal dimensions between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal variations in rectal dimensions among the undergraduate students studied, with some measurements potentially showing differences between male and female participants. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are recommended to establish broader reference data on rectal dimensions and sex-related anatomical variation.
