Sexual Dimorphism in Palpebral Fissure Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study will examine sexual dimorphism in palpebral fissure dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on identifying sex-related differences in selected measurements of the palpebral fissure. Palpebral fissure dimensions are important ocular anthropometric characteristics that contribute to the assessment of facial morphology and individual variation. Understanding differences in these dimensions between male and female young adults may provide useful information for anatomical, anthropological, clinical, and forensic applications. The study will specifically assess selected palpebral fissure dimensions, including palpebral fissure length and palpebral fissure height, among male and female participants. The study will determine the mean values of these measurements and compare their distributions between the sexes. Measurements will be obtained using standardized anatomical landmarks at the medial and lateral canthi and appropriate procedures to ensure consistency during assessment. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adult participants will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained. Direct ocular anthropometric measurements will be taken using suitable standardized instruments under consistent participant positioning and measurement conditions. The data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical tests will be used to determine significant differences between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable differences in selected palpebral fissure dimensions between male and female young adults. Male and female participants may demonstrate differences in the mean values of palpebral fissure length and height, while some degree of overlap may occur between the sexes.
