Sexual Dimorphism in Head Circumference Among Undergraduate Students
Abstract
The study examines sexual dimorphism in head circumference among undergraduate students. Head circumference is an important cranial anthropometric measurement that provides information about cranial size and overall head morphology. Differences in cranial dimensions between males and females may contribute to the understanding of normal anatomical variation and population-specific patterns of human physical characteristics. The study will determine head circumference among male and female undergraduate students and compare the measurements between the sexes. Head circumference will be measured around the maximum circumference of the head using standardized anatomical landmarks and procedures. The study will also assess the distribution and variation of head circumference within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established eligibility criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Head circumference will be measured with a suitable anthropometric instrument using standardized procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy. The data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while an appropriate inferential statistical technique will be used to compare head circumference between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal variations in head circumference among the participants and determine whether statistically significant differences exist between male and female undergraduate students. The findings are expected to provide information on the pattern of sexual dimorphism in cranial size within the study population. Such information may also contribute to the understanding of normal variation in cranial anthropometry among young adults. The findings are expected to be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, forensic practitioners, physiotherapists, clinicians, and other health-related researchers. The information may provide reference data for cranial anthropometry, forensic identification, anatomical assessment, and studies involving sexual dimorphism and human physical variation. The study will conclude by describing the observed pattern of sexual dimorphism in head circumference among undergraduate students based on the collected data. It is recommended that similar studies be conducted among larger and more diverse populations to establish broader reference values and further document variations in cranial dimensions across different populations.
