Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in first rib dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on differences in the size and morphology of the first rib between male and female individuals. The first rib is the shortest and most curved of the ribs and contributes to the formation of the superior thoracic aperture while providing attachment for important muscles and structures associated with the neck and thorax. Knowledge of its dimensions is important for understanding skeletal variation and may provide useful anatomical information for clinical, anthropological, and forensic applications. The study will assess selected dimensions of the first rib and determine whether measurable differences exist between males and females within the study population. The specific objectives will include measuring the length, breadth, curvature, and other appropriate dimensions of the first rib, documenting relevant morphological characteristics, comparing the measured dimensions between male and female groups, and identifying the dimensions that demonstrate noticeable patterns of sexual variation. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study.
