Sexual Dimorphism in Digastric Fossa Dimensions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in digastric fossa dimensions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in the anatomical dimensions of the digastric fossa between male and female participants. The digastric fossa is a shallow depression located on the inferior surface of the body of the mandible and provides attachment for the anterior belly of the digastric muscle. Its morphology and dimensions contribute to the understanding of mandibular anatomical variation and may provide useful information for anatomical, osteological, and forensic studies. The study will aim to determine the dimensions of the digastric fossa among male and female undergraduate students and assess differences in selected measurements between the two groups. It will also document the range of observed digastric fossa dimensions and examine the distribution of the measurements within the study population. The study will provide comparative information on the morphology of this mandibular landmark in relation to sex. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique.
