Sexual Dimorphism in Auricular Cartilage Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines sexual dimorphism in auricular cartilage dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on differences in the measurable characteristics of the external ear between male and female individuals. The auricular cartilage forms the structural framework of the external ear and contributes to the shape, size, flexibility, and overall configuration of the auricle. Knowledge of its dimensional characteristics is relevant to human anatomical variation and may provide useful information for anthropological, forensic, reconstructive, and otological applications. The study will assess selected dimensions of the auricular cartilage among young adults and determine whether measurable differences exist between male and female participants. The specific objectives will include measuring selected length, breadth, height, and other appropriate dimensions of the auricular cartilage, comparing the measurements between male and female participants, and documenting the extent of variation observed within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adult participants will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Auricular measurements will be obtained using standardized anthropometric procedures and appropriate measuring instruments, with consistent anatomical landmarks used for all participants. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate independent-group inferential tests will be applied to determine differences between male and female participants. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in auricular cartilage dimensions among the young adults studied. Some of the selected dimensions may show statistically significant differences between male and female participants, while other measurements may demonstrate considerable overlap between the groups. It is recommended that standardized measurement procedures be adopted when assessing auricular cartilage dimensions and that further studies involving larger and more diverse populations be conducted to establish broader anatomical reference data and improve understanding of variations in the external ear.
