Abstract

The study examines the relationship between mandibular foramen position and ramus height among undergraduate students. The mandibular foramen is an important anatomical opening located on the medial surface of the ramus of the mandible through which the inferior alveolar nerve and associated vessels enter the mandibular canal. Its position is clinically important because variations may affect the administration of inferior alveolar nerve blocks, mandibular surgical procedures, dental interventions, and other procedures involving the mandibular ramus. Understanding its relationship with ramus height may provide useful information on individual mandibular anatomical variation. The study will aim to determine the position of the mandibular foramen in relation to standardized anatomical landmarks and assess ramus height among undergraduate students. It will also examine the relationship between the position of the mandibular foramen and ramus height and determine the extent of variation in these anatomical measurements. The study will provide information on the spatial relationship between the mandibular foramen and the surrounding structures of the mandibular ramus. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. The position of the mandibular foramen and ramus height will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and suitable imaging or osteological measurement procedures. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and inferential statistical techniques will be used to determine the relationship between mandibular foramen position and ramus height. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in the position of the mandibular foramen and ramus height among the participants. A statistically significant association may be observed between selected measures of mandibular foramen position and ramus height. The findings are expected to demonstrate patterns of anatomical variation that may contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between the location of the mandibular foramen and the vertical dimensions of the mandibular ramus. The findings will be useful to anatomists, dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in procedures involving the mandibular ramus. Information on the relationship between mandibular foramen position and ramus height may assist in anatomical localization and support safer administration of local anaesthesia and surgical procedures. The findings may also provide reference information for anatomical education, radiological assessment, and future research on mandibular morphology. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between mandibular foramen position and ramus height among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical and imaging procedures when evaluating the mandibular foramen and ramus dimensions. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be recommended to establish broader reference data on the anatomical relationship between mandibular foramen position and ramus height.
