Relationship Between Lung Dimensions and Thoracic Circumference Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between lung dimensions and thoracic circumference among young adults, with emphasis on determining the association between pulmonary size and the external dimensions of the thoracic cage. The lungs are essential respiratory organs located within the thoracic cavity, and their dimensions are influenced by the size and configuration of the surrounding thoracic structures. Understanding the relationship between lung dimensions and thoracic circumference may provide useful information on individual variation in respiratory anatomy and contribute to anatomical and clinical assessment of the thorax. The study will determine selected lung dimensions and thoracic circumference among young adults and assess the relationship between these measurements. The specific objectives will include determining the mean lung dimensions, measuring thoracic circumference, examining the relationship between lung dimensions and thoracic circumference, and determining the strength and direction of any observed association between the variables. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Thoracic circumference will be obtained using standardized anthropometric procedures, while lung dimensions will be assessed through an appropriate imaging-based anatomical procedure. Data collected will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis and other appropriate inferential statistical tests will be used to examine the relationship between lung dimensions and thoracic circumference. The study is expected to reveal variations in lung dimensions and thoracic circumference among the young adults studied. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations are recommended to establish broader reference information on the relationship between lung dimensions and thoracic measurements.
