Relationship Between Lacrimal Bone Dimensions and Orbital Measurements Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between lacrimal bone dimensions and orbital measurements among young adults, with emphasis on the anatomical association between the lacrimal bone and the surrounding orbital structures. The lacrimal bone forms part of the medial wall of the orbit and contributes to the anatomical region associated with the lacrimal apparatus. Variations in its dimensions and its relationship with orbital measurements may provide useful information for understanding individual differences in orbital morphology and may have relevance in radiological assessment, orbital surgery, and craniofacial anatomical studies. The study aims to determine the dimensions of the lacrimal bone among young adults and assess their relationship with selected orbital measurements. It will specifically examine selected lacrimal bone dimensions, determine relevant orbital dimensions, and evaluate the degree of association between the measured lacrimal bone and orbital parameters. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be employed for the study. Appropriate sampling procedures will be used to select eligible young adult participants. Measurements of the lacrimal bone and orbital structures will be obtained using appropriate standardized anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures, with imaging-based assessment used where necessary to accurately visualize the small and deeply located lacrimal bone. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine relationships between lacrimal bone dimensions and orbital measurements. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in lacrimal bone dimensions among the participants and demonstrate varying degrees of association between selected lacrimal bone and orbital measurements. Differences in the strength of these relationships may provide additional information on the anatomical organization of the medial orbital region and contribute to a better understanding of individual variation in orbital morphology. The findings are expected to be useful to anatomists, radiologists, ophthalmologists, maxillofacial surgeons, and other professionals involved in the assessment and management of the orbital region. The results may provide anatomical reference information that can support interpretation of orbital imaging, planning of procedures involving the medial orbital wall and lacrimal region, and further research on craniofacial morphology. The study will conclude by establishing the nature of the relationship between lacrimal bone dimensions and orbital measurements among young adults. It is recommended that standardized measurement procedures be adopted in anatomical and radiological studies of the lacrimal region and that further investigations involving larger and more diverse populations be conducted to provide broader reference data on lacrimal bone and orbital morphology.
