Relationship Between Ischial Spine Dimensions and Pelvic Measurements Among Young Adults

Abstract

The ischial spine is a prominent anatomical projection of the ischium that contributes to the boundaries of the greater and lesser sciatic notches and serves as an important landmark within the pelvis. Its dimensions and morphology show individual variation and may have relevance in pelvic anatomy, obstetrics, forensic identification, radiological assessment, and surgical procedures involving the pelvic region. Understanding the relationship between ischial spine dimensions and other pelvic measurements may provide useful information on pelvic morphology among young adults. The study will assess the relationship between ischial spine dimensions and selected pelvic measurements among young adults. Specifically, it will determine the dimensions of the ischial spine, assess selected pelvic dimensions, and examine the association between ischial spine measurements and overall pelvic measurements. The study will also consider possible differences in the measured parameters between the right and left sides where applicable. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Measurements of the ischial spine and relevant pelvic dimensions will be obtained using standardized anatomical measurement procedures and appropriate osteological or imaging-based methods, depending on the study setting. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationships between ischial spine dimensions and selected pelvic measurements. The study is expected to reveal measurable variations in ischial spine dimensions and pelvic measurements among the participants. It is also expected to demonstrate whether significant relationships exist between the dimensions of the ischial spine and selected pelvic parameters. The findings may further provide information on patterns of pelvic morphology and possible bilateral differences in ischial spine measurements. The findings will be useful to anatomists, anthropologists, radiologists, forensic practitioners, obstetric and gynaecological professionals, and clinicians involved in pelvic assessment. Information obtained from the study may contribute to anatomical reference data and improve understanding of the structural relationships within the pelvis. It may also provide useful baseline information for comparative anatomical and forensic studies involving young adult populations.  The study will conclude by establishing the observed relationship between ischial spine dimensions and selected pelvic measurements among young adults. It will recommend the use of standardized measurement procedures in anatomical studies of the pelvis and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to improve the understanding of variations in ischial spine and pelvic morphology.
