Relationship Between Infraorbital Foramen Position and Facial Dimensions Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between infraorbital foramen position and facial dimensions among young adults, with emphasis on the anatomical association between the location of the infraorbital foramen and selected facial measurements. The infraorbital foramen is an important opening on the anterior surface of the maxilla through which the infraorbital nerve and associated vessels pass. Understanding its position in relation to facial landmarks is important for studying maxillofacial anatomy and may provide useful information for clinical procedures involving the midfacial region. The study will determine the position of the infraorbital foramen in relation to standardized facial landmarks and assess selected facial dimensions among young adults. The specific objectives will include measuring relevant facial dimensions, determining the position of the infraorbital foramen, assessing right and left side differences where applicable, and examining the relationship between infraorbital foramen position and the measured facial dimensions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. The position of the infraorbital foramen and selected facial dimensions will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate imaging-based or osteological measurement procedures. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and inferential statistical tests will be used to examine relationships between the variables. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in infraorbital foramen position and selected facial dimensions among the study population. A statistically significant relationship may be observed between specific aspects of infraorbital foramen position and facial measurements. It is recommended that standardized anatomical and imaging-based measurement procedures be maintained when assessing the infraorbital and facial regions, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader anatomical reference data.
