Relationship Between Grip Strength and Upper Limb Proportions Among Young Adults
Abstract
The study examines the relationship between grip strength and upper limb proportions among young adults. Grip strength is an important indicator of hand and upper limb functional performance, while upper limb proportions describe the relative dimensions of different segments of the upper extremity. Examining the relationship between these characteristics may provide useful information on the association between upper limb morphology and functional strength among young adults. The study will assess grip strength and selected upper limb dimensions among the participants. Grip strength will be measured using a calibrated hand dynamometer, while upper limb proportions will be determined from standardized measurements of relevant upper limb segments, including arm, forearm, and hand dimensions. Appropriate anatomical landmarks and standardized measurement procedures will be used to ensure consistency and reliability of the measurements. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the predetermined inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Measurements will be obtained under standardized conditions, with participants positioned appropriately during anthropometric and grip strength assessments. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between grip strength and upper limb proportions. The study is expected to reveal variations in grip strength and upper limb proportions among the participants. It is also expected to determine whether measurable relationships exist between grip strength and the proportional dimensions of the upper limb. The findings may indicate the extent to which differences in upper limb proportions are associated with variations in functional grip performance among young adults. The findings will be useful to anatomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports scientists, ergonomists, rehabilitation professionals, and other health-related practitioners. The study may provide useful reference information for understanding normal upper limb proportions and functional strength, as well as supporting ergonomic assessment, rehabilitation planning, physical performance evaluation, and anthropometric research. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between grip strength and upper limb proportions among young adults. It will be recommended that standardized anthropometric and dynamometric procedures be used when assessing upper limb dimensions and grip strength. Further research involving larger and more diverse populations will also be encouraged to establish broader reference data and improve understanding of the association between upper limb morphology and functional performance.
