Abstract

The study examines the relationship between greater palatine foramen position and palatal dimensions among young adults. The greater palatine foramen is an important anatomical opening located on the posterolateral aspect of the hard palate and provides passage for the greater palatine nerve and accompanying vessels. Its position and anatomical relationships are clinically important because they are relevant to the administration of local anaesthesia, palatal surgery, dental procedures, and other interventions involving the posterior hard palate. The study will aim to determine the position of the greater palatine foramen in relation to standardized palatal anatomical landmarks and assess selected palatal dimensions among young adults. It will also examine the relationship between greater palatine foramen position and the measured palatal dimensions. The study will further document variations in the anatomical location of the foramen and provide information on its spatial relationship with surrounding palatal structures. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Young adults who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. The position of the greater palatine foramen and selected palatal dimensions will be assessed using standardized anatomical landmarks and suitable imaging or osteological measurement procedures. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate correlation and inferential statistical techniques will be used to determine the relationship between greater palatine foramen position and palatal dimensions. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in the position of the greater palatine foramen and palatal dimensions among the participants. A statistically significant association may be observed between the position of the greater palatine foramen and selected palatal measurements. The findings are expected to demonstrate patterns of anatomical variation that may contribute to a better understanding of the spatial relationship between the greater palatine foramen and the morphology of the hard palate. The findings will be useful to anatomists, dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, prosthodontists, orthodontists, and radiologists involved in procedures involving the hard palate. Information on the relationship between greater palatine foramen position and palatal dimensions may assist in accurate anatomical localization and support safer administration of local anaesthesia and surgical procedures. The study may also provide useful reference information for anatomical education and future craniofacial research. The study will conclude by providing information on the relationship between greater palatine foramen position and palatal dimensions among young adults. It will recommend the use of standardized anatomical and imaging procedures when evaluating the greater palatine foramen and surrounding palatal structures. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be recommended to establish broader reference data on greater palatine foramen position and palatal morphology.
