Relationship Between Extensor Muscle Dimensions and Forearm Length Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between extensor muscle dimensions and forearm length among young adults, with emphasis on the association between selected extensor muscle measurements and the longitudinal dimension of the forearm. The extensor muscles of the forearm play important roles in the extension and positioning of the wrist and fingers and contribute to coordinated upper-limb movement. Understanding the relationship between muscle dimensions and forearm length may provide useful information on anatomical proportions and individual variation in the upper limb. The study will determine the dimensions of selected extensor muscles and assess their relationship with forearm length among young adults. The specific objectives will include measuring selected extensor muscle dimensions, determining the forearm length of the participants, assessing the relationship between extensor muscle dimensions and forearm length, and comparing the measured parameters between the right and left sides where applicable. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adult participants will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. Extensor muscle dimensions will be assessed using standardized anatomical or imaging-based procedures, while forearm length will be obtained through standardized anthropometric measurements. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation and other appropriate inferential statistical tests will be applied to determine the relationship between the variables. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in extensor muscle dimensions and forearm length among the participants. A positive relationship may be observed between selected extensor muscle dimensions and forearm length, although the strength of the association may differ among the muscles assessed and between the right and left sides. It is recommended that standardized anthropometric and imaging procedures be used when assessing upper-limb dimensions and that further studies involving larger and more diverse populations be conducted to provide broader reference data on the relationship between forearm muscle dimensions and skeletal measurements.
