Relationship Between Dental Arch Shape and Facial Proportions Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study will examine the relationship between dental arch shape and facial proportions among undergraduate students, with emphasis on determining whether variations in dental arch configuration are associated with differences in selected facial proportions. Dental arch shape is an important component of oral morphology, while facial proportions describe the relative dimensions of different regions of the face. Understanding the relationship between these characteristics may provide useful information on the interaction between dental and craniofacial morphology. The study will specifically assess the shape of the dental arch and selected facial proportions among the participants. Dental arch shape will be determined using standardized dental landmarks and appropriate intraoral assessment procedures, while facial proportions will be assessed using selected facial anthropometric measurements and indices. The study will classify the observed dental arch forms and examine their distribution in relation to the measured facial proportions. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, and relevant demographic information will be obtained.
