Morphological Variation of the Right Lung Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the morphological variation of the right lung among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in its shape, size, fissural arrangement, lobar configuration, and overall anatomical appearance. The right lung is an important respiratory organ located within the right side of the thoracic cavity and is normally divided into superior, middle, and inferior lobes by the horizontal and oblique fissures. Knowledge of variations in right lung morphology is important for understanding normal pulmonary anatomy and for supporting accurate interpretation of radiological findings and thoracic procedures. The study will assess the morphological characteristics of the right lung among undergraduate students and document the different patterns of anatomical variation observed. The specific objectives will include identifying variations in the shape and configuration of the right lung, documenting differences in its lobar and fissural patterns, determining selected morphological dimensions, and assessing the frequency of the observed anatomical patterns within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique. The morphology and dimensions of the right lung will be assessed using an appropriate imaging-based or anatomical examination procedure capable of demonstrating pulmonary structures. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical tests will be applied where necessary to examine differences in the observed morphological characteristics. The study is expected to reveal variations in the morphology of the right lung among the undergraduate students studied.
