Morphological Variation of the Radial Styloid Process Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the morphological variation of the radial styloid process among undergraduate students. The radial styloid process is a prominent projection of the distal radius that contributes to the structural anatomy of the wrist and provides attachment for important ligamentous structures. Its morphology may vary in shape, size, orientation, and dimensions, with these variations having relevance to wrist biomechanics, fracture assessment, surgical procedures, and radiological interpretation. Understanding these anatomical variations is therefore important for establishing reliable reference information on the morphology of the distal forearm. The study aims to determine the morphological characteristics of the radial styloid process among undergraduate students. It will specifically assess variations in the shape, size, length, and orientation of the radial styloid process and document the frequency and distribution of the observed morphological patterns within the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the predetermined inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. The morphology and dimensions of the radial styloid process will be assessed using standardized anatomical measurement procedures and appropriate imaging or osteological techniques where required. Data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while appropriate inferential statistical methods will be applied to examine relevant differences in the observed morphological characteristics. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in the morphology and dimensions of the radial styloid process among the participants.
