Morphological Variation of the Gallbladder Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the morphological variation of the gallbladder among undergraduate students, with emphasis on differences in its shape, size, position, and general anatomical configuration. The gallbladder is a pear-shaped hollow organ located on the visceral surface of the liver and serves an important role in the storage and concentration of bile. Knowledge of its normal morphological characteristics and variations is important for understanding abdominal anatomy, interpreting diagnostic images, and supporting clinical procedures involving the hepatobiliary system. The study will assess the morphological characteristics of the gallbladder among undergraduate students using appropriate standardized anatomical and imaging-based assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include identifying the different morphological patterns of the gallbladder, determining selected dimensions such as length and width, documenting variations in its position and configuration, and assessing the frequency of the observed morphological patterns among the participants. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of undergraduate students will be selected using a suitable sampling technique, while gallbladder morphology will be assessed through appropriate imaging procedures and standardized anatomical landmarks. Data obtained from the assessment will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, with appropriate inferential tests applied where necessary to determine significant differences in the observed characteristics. The study is expected to reveal variations in the shape, dimensions, position, and configuration of the gallbladder among the participants. Different morphological patterns may be observed, with some dimensions or characteristics potentially showing statistically significant differences between individuals or relevant participant groups. It is recommended that knowledge of normal gallbladder variation be incorporated into anatomical and radiological assessment, while further studies involving larger and more diverse populations should be conducted to establish broader reference data on gallbladder morphology.
