Correlation Between Palatal Length and Palatal Breadth Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study will examine the correlation between palatal length and palatal breadth among undergraduate students. Palatal length and palatal breadth are important dimensions of the hard palate that contribute to the description of oral and craniofacial morphology. Understanding the relationship between these dimensions may provide useful information on the proportional characteristics and morphological variation of the palate among young adults. The study will determine palatal length and palatal breadth among the participants using appropriate standardized intraoral anatomical landmarks and measurement procedures. Palatal length will be assessed along the anteroposterior dimension of the hard palate, while palatal breadth will be determined across the transverse dimension using suitable reference points. The study will also assess the extent of variation in both measurements and determine the degree of association between them. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the established inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected through standardized intraoral measurements using suitable calibrated instruments and consistent measurement techniques. The data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between palatal length and palatal breadth. The study is expected to reveal measurable variation in palatal length and palatal breadth among the undergraduate students. A significant correlation may be observed between the two palatal dimensions, indicating the extent to which differences in palatal length correspond with differences in palatal breadth. Further studies involving larger and more diverse populations will also be recommended to provide broader information on variations in palatal dimensions.
