Comparative Morphology of the Jejunum and Ileum Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the comparative morphology of the jejunum and ileum among young adults, with emphasis on their structural features, dimensions, wall characteristics, and distinguishing anatomical configurations. The jejunum and ileum are the major distal portions of the small intestine and play important roles in digestion and nutrient absorption. Although they are continuous parts of the same organ, they differ in several anatomical characteristics, and knowledge of these differences is important for understanding normal gastrointestinal anatomy and for supporting clinical assessment and surgical procedures involving the small intestine. The study will assess and compare the morphological characteristics of the jejunum and ileum among young adults using relevant anatomical landmarks and standardized anatomical, imaging, or specimen-based assessment procedures. The specific objectives will include determining selected dimensions of the jejunum and ileum, identifying differences in their external and internal morphological features, assessing their wall and luminal characteristics where applicable, and comparing the observed anatomical features between the two intestinal segments. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults or suitable anatomical specimens will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, depending on the assessment method employed.
