Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Animation as an Educational Medium

Abstract

The study will examine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium. Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire relevant knowledge and practical competencies that can support effective participation in contemporary learning environments. Animation can serve as an educational medium by presenting concepts, processes, demonstrations, and abstract ideas through moving visual elements, making information more engaging and easier to understand. However, limited knowledge of the educational uses and characteristics of animation may restrict adults’ ability to recognize and apply its potential for learning and knowledge sharing. The study will therefore investigate the extent to which adult education can improve adults’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium. Adult education provides structured learning experiences that take into consideration adults’ existing experiences, interests, needs, and learning objectives. Through appropriate learning activities, adults can be introduced to the meaning, characteristics, applications, and educational value of animation. Learning activities may expose participants to different forms of educational animation, animation-based explanations, visual storytelling, motion graphics, and animated demonstrations. Discussions, demonstrations, analysis of existing animated materials, and practical activities can help adults understand how animation can be selected and used appropriately to communicate educational information. Knowledge of animation as an educational medium involves understanding its purposes, characteristics, applications, advantages, limitations, and appropriate use in learning situations. Adults with adequate knowledge may be able to identify situations where animation can improve explanation, demonstrate processes, simplify complex information, and maintain learners’ attention. Adult education can strengthen this knowledge by enabling participants to examine different animated educational materials and understand how visual movement, sequencing, narration, and other elements can contribute to effective communication and learning. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to measure participants’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium. The research instrument will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while its reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium. The study is expected to establish that adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium. It is anticipated that adults who participate in relevant learning activities will demonstrate improved understanding of the educational purposes, applications, strengths, and appropriate uses of animation. The study may also establish that practical exposure to animated educational materials helps adults recognize how animation can be used to explain processes, illustrate concepts, and communicate information in engaging ways. The findings are expected to have implications for Adult Education practitioners, facilitators, and programme developers. Adult Education programmes may incorporate animation-based learning materials and activities to expose adults to contemporary approaches to educational communication. Facilitators can use demonstrations, animated examples, guided discussions, and practical analysis activities to strengthen learners’ understanding of the educational value of animation. Such approaches can make adult learning more engaging and responsive to the increasing use of visual and multimedia resources in education. The study will be significant to adult learners, Adult Education practitioners, educational organizations, community educators, and other stakeholders interested in innovative learning resources. It is recommended that Adult Education programmes provide adults with relevant opportunities to understand the educational applications of animation and other multimedia resources. The study will conclude that appropriate adult education can improve adults’ knowledge of animation as an educational medium and strengthen their ability to recognize and utilize its potential for effective learning and information presentation.
