Impact of Training-Provider Information on Adults’ Choice of Continuing Education Programmes

Abstract

Training-Provider Information refers to the availability and accessibility of relevant information about institutions and organizations that offer continuing education, including their programmes, admission requirements, duration, costs, learning schedules, facilities, and areas of specialization. Adults’ choice of continuing education programmes refers to the process through which adults select educational programmes that correspond with their learning needs, interests, career goals, and personal circumstances. Access to adequate information is important because adults often need to compare available programmes before making appropriate educational choices. Therefore, this study aims to examine the impact of Training-Provider Information on adults’ choice of continuing education programmes. Training-provider information can be communicated through institutional websites, brochures, social media platforms, community information centres, advertisements, career guidance services, educational fairs, and direct communication with training providers. Such information enables adults to understand the nature and requirements of available programmes before enrolment. Clear information about programme content, entry requirements, duration, cost, certification, learning arrangements, and expected outcomes can help adults compare different educational opportunities and identify programmes that meet their individual needs. Adults’ choice of continuing education programmes involves evaluating available alternatives and selecting a programme based on factors such as relevance, accessibility, affordability, flexibility, expected benefits, and suitability to personal circumstances. Adults who have access to comprehensive and reliable information about training providers may be better positioned to evaluate programme alternatives and make informed choices. Inadequate or unclear information, on the other hand, may make it difficult for adults to distinguish between available programmes and determine which option best meets their educational objectives. The study will adopt a descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults who are prospective or current participants in continuing education programmes, from which a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to measure access to Training-Provider Information and adults’ choice of continuing education programmes. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures before administration. Data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that Training-Provider Information has a significant positive impact on adults’ choice of continuing education programmes. Adults with access to clear, adequate, timely, and reliable information about training providers are expected to demonstrate greater ability to compare programme alternatives and select programmes that correspond with their educational and personal needs. The study may further indicate that comprehensive information about programme requirements, costs, schedules, certification, and expected outcomes contributes to more informed educational choices. The findings will have implications for teaching and learning in continuing education by emphasizing the importance of providing prospective learners with accessible and understandable programme information. Training providers may need to present programme details in clear formats that adults can easily understand and compare. Adult educators and educational counsellors can also assist prospective learners in interpreting available programme information and assessing its relevance to their individual educational objectives. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, continuing education providers, adult educators, educational counsellors, programme administrators, and policymakers. Adults may benefit from improved access to information that supports informed programme selection, while training providers may gain insight into the types of information prospective learners require before enrolment. Educational administrators and policymakers may also use the findings to improve information dissemination practices and promote transparency within continuing education provision. The study will recommend that training providers provide complete, accurate, timely, and easily accessible information about their continuing education programmes through appropriate communication channels. Programme information should clearly explain admission requirements, costs, duration, schedules, certification, learning content, and expected outcomes. Adult education centres should also strengthen guidance services to help prospective learners evaluate available alternatives. The study concludes that effective dissemination of Training-Provider Information can significantly influence adults’ ability to make informed choices regarding continuing education programmes.
