Impact of Programme Information Availability on Adults’ Enrolment in Continuing Education

Abstract

Programme information availability refers to the extent to which adults can obtain clear, accurate, and accessible information about continuing education programmes, including admission requirements, programme content, duration, fees, schedules, location, and enrolment procedures. Adults’ enrolment in continuing education refers to their decision and action to register for and commence participation in further learning opportunities after their previous formal education. Inadequate programme information may make it difficult for adults to identify suitable educational opportunities or make informed enrolment decisions. This study will examine the impact of programme information availability on adults’ enrolment in continuing education, with the purpose of determining whether access to adequate programme information influences adults’ enrolment decisions. Programme information may be provided through learning centres, educational institutions, community organisations, printed materials, information sessions, notice boards, websites, social media platforms, and other communication channels. Relevant information may include programme objectives, entry requirements, costs, class schedules, learning locations, registration procedures, and expected completion periods. When such information is clear, timely, and easily accessible, adults may be better able to compare available programmes and determine which opportunities are appropriate for their educational needs. Adults’ enrolment in continuing education refers to the process through which adults identify a suitable learning opportunity, obtain admission information, complete registration requirements, and formally register for a continuing education programme. Programme information availability may influence enrolment by helping adults understand what programmes are offered, who can participate, how to register, and what is required to begin the programme. Clear and accessible information may therefore encourage adults to make informed enrolment decisions and reduce uncertainty about continuing education opportunities. The study will adopt a quantitative research design. The population will comprise adults who are potential participants in selected continuing education programmes. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to measure programme information availability and adults’ enrolment in continuing education. The instrument will be subjected to appropriate validity and reliability procedures before administration. Data collected will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, while the relevant hypothesis will be tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The study is expected to establish that programme information availability has a positive impact on adults’ enrolment in continuing education. It is expected that adults who have greater access to clear and relevant programme information will demonstrate higher levels of enrolment in continuing education programmes. The study may further establish that information concerning admission requirements, programme schedules, costs, location, and registration procedures is particularly important in helping adults make enrolment decisions. The findings will have implications for the teaching and administration of adult education. Adult education providers may need to give greater attention to the availability, clarity, accuracy, and accessibility of programme information. Information about educational opportunities should be communicated through channels that are easily accessible to prospective adult learners and presented in language that can be readily understood by the target population. The study will be significant to prospective adult learners, adult educators, continuing education providers, programme administrators, educational planners, and community education organisations. Adults may benefit from improved access to information that helps them identify and select suitable learning opportunities. Programme administrators and educational planners may also gain useful information for improving the communication and dissemination of continuing education programme information. The study will recommend that continuing education providers should make comprehensive programme information readily available through accessible communication channels. Information should clearly state admission requirements, costs, schedules, locations, programme content, and registration procedures. Adult education providers should also regularly update programme information and use multiple communication channels to reach prospective learners. The study will conclude that the availability of clear and accessible programme information can contribute significantly to increased enrolment in continuing education.
