Impact of Event-Entrepreneurship Education on Adults’ Ability to Develop Small Event Concepts

Abstract

Event-Entrepreneurship Education refers to organized learning experiences that equip adults with knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial abilities for identifying, planning, and developing event-related business opportunities. Adults’ ability to develop small event concepts is important because well-designed small events can create opportunities for income generation, community engagement, networking, and service development. However, some adults may experience difficulties in identifying suitable event opportunities, developing creative event ideas, defining target audiences, and organizing their ideas into practical event concepts. This study therefore seeks to examine the impact of Event-Entrepreneurship Education on adults’ ability to develop small event concepts. Event-Entrepreneurship Education exposes adults to concepts such as event opportunity identification, idea generation, target-audience analysis, event planning, budgeting, promotion, resource organization, risk awareness, and customer needs assessment. Through practical learning activities, adults can examine different types of small events, identify potential opportunities within their communities, and develop ideas that respond to specific interests or needs. The educational process can also encourage participants to consider the purpose, theme, audience, resources, and basic operational requirements of an event before transforming an initial idea into a more structured event concept. Adults’ ability to develop small event concepts involves their capacity to identify an event opportunity, generate an appropriate idea, define its purpose and target audience, select suitable activities, and organize the major elements required for implementation. This ability requires creativity, planning, communication, resource management, and basic entrepreneurial judgment. Event-Entrepreneurship Education may strengthen these abilities by providing adults with opportunities to analyse event examples, generate ideas, evaluate alternatives, and develop practical concepts based on identified market or community interests. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education and entrepreneurship programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate practical assessment designed to measure participants’ ability to develop small event concepts. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of Event-Entrepreneurship Education on adults’ ability to develop small event concepts. The study is expected to establish that Event-Entrepreneurship Education has a positive impact on adults’ ability to develop small event concepts. Participants exposed to relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved abilities in identifying event opportunities, generating creative concepts, defining target audiences, selecting suitable event activities, and organizing basic event requirements. The study is also expected to indicate that practical entrepreneurial learning can strengthen adults’ confidence in transforming simple event ideas into structured and potentially viable concepts. The findings are expected to have important implications for Adult Education practitioners, entrepreneurship educators, event-industry trainers, and programme planners. Adult Education programmes may benefit from incorporating practical event-development activities that allow participants to explore event opportunities and create their own small event concepts. Idea-generation exercises, event-planning simulations, group projects, audience-analysis activities, and basic promotional exercises could provide adults with meaningful opportunities to apply entrepreneurial knowledge to realistic event situations. The study is expected to contribute to the understanding of how Adult Education can support entrepreneurial creativity and practical opportunity development within the event sector. It is recommended that Adult Education programmes provide structured learning opportunities on event entrepreneurship, idea development, audience identification, planning, promotion, and resource organization. Such programmes should emphasize practical activities that enable adults to transform creative ideas into clearly defined event concepts. The study concludes that effective Event-Entrepreneurship Education can strengthen adults’ ability to develop practical small event concepts and identify entrepreneurial opportunities within event-related activities.
