Impact of Entrepreneurship Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Business Networking
Abstract
Entrepreneurship education provides adults with knowledge and skills that can strengthen their capacity to identify opportunities, establish enterprises, build business relationships, and participate effectively in commercial activities. Business networking refers to the process of developing and maintaining professional relationships with individuals, entrepreneurs, customers, suppliers, investors, organizations, and other relevant business stakeholders. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of how effective business networks are developed and maintained. This study will examine the impact of entrepreneurship education on adults’ knowledge of business networking and determine how structured entrepreneurial learning can improve their understanding of networking practices. Entrepreneurship education can provide practical learning experiences through discussions, case studies, business simulations, group activities, workshops, and networking exercises. Adults can be introduced to different approaches to building professional relationships, including identifying relevant contacts, communicating business interests, participating in business events, maintaining professional relationships, and using appropriate digital platforms for networking. Learning activities can also expose participants to the importance of trust, professionalism, communication, mutual benefit, and consistent follow-up in developing productive business relationships. These experiences can help adults understand how networking contributes to entrepreneurial activities. Knowledge of business networking involves understanding the principles, methods, and practices involved in establishing and maintaining useful professional relationships. Adults need to understand how to identify appropriate business contacts, introduce themselves professionally, communicate effectively, exchange relevant information, maintain relationships, and identify mutually beneficial opportunities. Adequate networking knowledge can help entrepreneurs access information, partnerships, customers, suppliers, expertise, and other business opportunities. Entrepreneurship education may therefore strengthen this knowledge by providing adults with practical networking concepts and opportunities to examine realistic business relationship-building situations. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected entrepreneurship education, Adult Education, and business-skills programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure participants’ understanding of business networking practices. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of entrepreneurship education on adults’ knowledge of business networking. The study is expected to establish that participation in entrepreneurship education has a positive impact on adults’ knowledge of business networking. It is expected that adults exposed to structured entrepreneurial learning will demonstrate improved understanding of identifying relevant contacts, initiating professional relationships, communicating business interests, maintaining business connections, and recognizing mutually beneficial networking opportunities. The findings are also expected to indicate that practical networking exercises and business case studies can strengthen adults’ awareness of how professional relationships can support entrepreneurial activities. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, entrepreneurship educators, business trainers, enterprise-development facilitators, and programme developers. Entrepreneurship programmes should incorporate networking simulations, business introductions, group projects, professional communication exercises, and discussions of effective relationship management. Opportunities to interact with other learners and relevant business stakeholders can make networking education more practical and help adults develop confidence in establishing and maintaining professional connections. The study will be significant to adult learners, aspiring entrepreneurs, small-business owners, entrepreneurship training providers, and stakeholders interested in enterprise development. It will recommend that entrepreneurship education programmes include practical business-networking activities and provide learners with opportunities to develop professional relationships in appropriate learning and business environments. The study will conclude that well-organized entrepreneurship education can improve adults’ knowledge of business networking and strengthen their capacity to build productive professional relationships that support business development and sustainability.
