Impact of Adult Learning on Adults’ Ability to Produce Educational Video Content
Abstract
The study will examine the impact of adult learning on adults’ ability to produce educational video content. Adult learning provides individuals with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge, digital skills, and competencies that can support effective participation in contemporary learning and communication environments. Educational video content has become an important means of presenting information, explaining concepts, sharing experiences, and supporting self-directed learning. However, some adults may experience difficulties in planning, recording, editing, and presenting useful educational videos due to limited technical knowledge and practical experience. The study will therefore investigate how adult learning can enhance adults’ ability to develop and produce meaningful educational video content. Adult learning involves approaches that recognize adults’ experiences, interests, needs, and practical learning goals. Through structured learning activities, adults can acquire knowledge of video planning, content organization, scripting, recording techniques, visual presentation, audio quality, and basic editing processes. Practical learning experiences can also expose adults to digital tools and platforms that support video production. By engaging learners in activities that require experimentation, practice, reflection, and problem-solving, adult learning can provide opportunities for participants to develop confidence and competence in producing educational materials in video form. The ability to produce educational video content involves several related competencies, including identifying a suitable topic, organizing relevant information, preparing a clear script or outline, recording understandable audio and visuals, applying basic editing techniques, and presenting information in an engaging manner. Adults who possess these abilities can use video content to share knowledge, demonstrate practical skills, explain procedures, and support learning within their communities, workplaces, and personal environments. Effective adult learning may therefore contribute to improved competence by providing opportunities for learners to practise video production tasks and receive feedback on their performance. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate practical assessment designed to measure participants’ ability to produce educational video content. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of adult learning on adults’ ability to produce educational video content. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult learning contributes positively to adults’ ability to produce educational video content. It is anticipated that adults who receive relevant learning experiences will demonstrate improved competence in planning video content, organizing information, recording presentations, using basic editing tools, and communicating educational messages effectively. The study may also establish that practical and activity-based learning experiences provide adults with greater opportunities to develop confidence and independence in the use of digital video production tools. The findings are expected to have implications for Adult Education practitioners, facilitators, and programme developers. Adult Education programmes may incorporate practical digital-content activities that allow learners to develop educational videos based on real-life topics and community needs. Facilitators can provide demonstrations, guided practice, peer feedback, and project-based activities to strengthen participants’ video production skills. Such approaches can make adult learning more practical and responsive to contemporary digital communication demands while encouraging adults to become active producers rather than only consumers of educational content. The study will be significant to adult learners, Adult Education practitioners, community organizations, workplaces, and other stakeholders interested in digital learning and knowledge sharing. It is recommended that relevant Adult Education programmes provide adults with accessible opportunities to learn basic educational video production and digital communication skills. The study will conclude that strengthening practical adult learning opportunities can enhance adults’ capacity to produce useful educational video content and participate more effectively in modern digital learning environments.
