Abstract

Occupational responsibilities refer to the duties, obligations, expected tasks, and professional responsibilities assigned to workers within their respective occupations. Adequate knowledge of these responsibilities is essential for workers to understand what is expected of them, perform their duties appropriately, and contribute effectively to organizational objectives. However, inadequate knowledge of occupational responsibilities may result in role confusion, poor task performance, inappropriate decision-making, and difficulties in meeting workplace expectations. This study will examine the impact of Adult Education on workers’ knowledge of occupational responsibilities. Adult Education provides workers with opportunities to acquire practical knowledge and improve competencies relevant to their occupational roles. Through workshops, discussions, demonstrations, practical exercises, workplace-based learning, and other structured educational activities, workers can develop a clearer understanding of their duties and professional obligations. Adult Education can also help workers relate general occupational principles to specific workplace situations and become more familiar with the standards and expectations associated with their roles. Knowledge of occupational responsibilities refers to workers’ understanding of the duties, tasks, obligations, professional expectations, and role requirements associated with their occupations. This knowledge enables workers to identify their responsibilities, understand the limits of their roles, recognize expected standards, and respond appropriately to work-related situations. Adult Education can strengthen this knowledge by providing practical learning experiences that allow workers to examine occupational responsibilities and apply relevant knowledge to realistic workplace situations. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise workers participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure workers’ knowledge of occupational responsibilities. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of Adult Education on workers’ knowledge of occupational responsibilities. The study is expected to establish that Adult Education has a positive impact on workers’ knowledge of occupational responsibilities. Workers who participate in relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of their duties, role expectations, professional obligations, and appropriate workplace responsibilities. The study is also expected to indicate that practical and workplace-oriented learning experiences can help workers connect occupational knowledge with the actual responsibilities associated with their roles. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, workplace trainers, human resource managers, organizational administrators, and programme planners. Adult Education programmes should incorporate practical activities that help workers examine their occupational duties and responsibilities in relation to realistic workplace situations. Workshops, case studies, role-play, guided discussions, and practical demonstrations may help workers develop clearer knowledge of their roles and improve their ability to perform their responsibilities appropriately. The study will be significant to workers, employers, Adult Education practitioners, human resource departments, and organizations seeking to improve workplace effectiveness. It is expected to demonstrate the value of Adult Education in strengthening workers’ knowledge of occupational responsibilities and supporting appropriate role performance. The study will recommend regular occupational learning activities, practical role-based training, and accessible educational materials that reinforce workers’ understanding of their responsibilities. It will conclude that effective Adult Education can contribute to improved knowledge of occupational responsibilities and support more informed, responsible, and effective workplace practices.
