Impact of Adult Education on Adults’ Ability to Complete Registration Processes
Abstract
The ability to complete registration processes is an important functional skill because it enables adults to provide required information, follow registration requirements, and successfully gain access to educational programmes, services, organizations, and other opportunities. Adult education provides learners with literacy, comprehension, and practical information-processing skills that can strengthen their ability to manage registration-related tasks. However, some adults may experience difficulties understanding registration requirements, completing required sections, or following the necessary procedures correctly. This study therefore aims to examine the impact of adult education on adults’ ability to complete registration processes. Adult education exposes learners to practical activities that involve reading information, interpreting requirements, providing relevant details, and following specified procedures. Through guided exercises, learners can practise identifying required information, completing registration sections, arranging necessary details, reviewing entries, and following procedural steps. These activities can help adults develop systematic approaches to managing registration tasks and improve their ability to respond appropriately to procedural requirements. The ability to complete registration processes refers to the capacity to understand registration requirements, provide the necessary information, complete required sections accurately, and follow the specified procedures through completion. Successful registration requires attention to instructions, accurate information entry, proper sequencing of activities, and careful review of submitted information. Adult education is expected to influence this ability by strengthening learners’ functional literacy, comprehension, and practical application of written information. The study will adopt a quasi-experimental research design. The population will consist of adult learners enrolled in selected adult education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected. Data will be collected using a registration-process performance assessment administered before and after exposure to relevant adult education activities. The data obtained will be analysed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of adult education on adults’ ability to complete registration processes. The study is expected to establish that adult learners exposed to adult education demonstrate improved ability to complete registration processes compared with their performance before the intervention. The findings are expected to show improvements in understanding registration requirements, entering relevant information, following procedural steps, identifying omissions, and reviewing completed registration details. This would suggest that adult education can contribute positively to adults’ ability to manage practical registration tasks. The findings will have implications for teaching and learning in adult education programmes. Adult education instructors may incorporate realistic registration exercises into functional literacy and practical learning activities. Learners can be provided with opportunities to interpret registration requirements, complete sample registration materials, check their entries, and follow procedures systematically. Such activities may strengthen the practical application of literacy and comprehension skills. Adult learners, adult education instructors, programme coordinators, curriculum developers, and educational administrators are expected to benefit from the findings. Adult learners may develop greater competence in managing registration processes, while instructors may gain practical approaches for strengthening procedural and functional literacy skills. Programme coordinators and curriculum developers may also use the findings to incorporate practical registration activities into adult education programmes. The study recommends that adult education programmes should include practical activities that require learners to interpret and complete registration processes. Instructors should guide learners in understanding requirements, providing relevant information, following procedural steps, and checking completed registration details for accuracy and completeness. It is concluded that adult education can play an important role in improving adults’ ability to complete registration processes and strengthening their capacity to manage practical procedural tasks effectively.
