Effect of Vocational Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Facial Treatment Techniques

Abstract

Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can improve their participation in vocational activities and enhance their ability to perform technical tasks. Machine tools are important equipment used in various production and workshop activities, requiring users to understand their basic functions, operating procedures, handling methods, and safety requirements. However, inadequate knowledge of basic machine tool operation may limit adults’ ability to use such equipment effectively and safely. This study therefore examines the impact of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation. Adult education programmes can provide practical and experience-based learning through demonstrations, guided instruction, discussions, illustrations, and supervised workshop activities. In machine tool education, adults can be introduced to the identification and functions of basic machine tools, operating controls, preparation of workpieces, appropriate tool selection, basic operating procedures, and safe equipment handling. These learning activities can enable adults to connect theoretical explanations with practical experiences and develop a clearer understanding of how basic machine tools are operated. Adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation refers to their understanding of the functions, components, operating procedures, handling practices, and safety measures associated with the use of basic machine tools. Adequate knowledge is important because incorrect tool selection, improper equipment handling, failure to follow operating procedures, and poor attention to safety requirements may affect work quality and create avoidable risks in workshop environments. Adult education may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing structured instruction, practical demonstrations, and opportunities to observe and practise appropriate machine tool operations. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult education or vocational programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the impact of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult education has a positive impact on adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of machine tool identification, functions, operating controls, workpiece preparation, tool selection, basic operating procedures, and workshop safety practices. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and supervised workshop activities enhance adults’ ability to understand and retain knowledge relating to machine tool operation. The study will conclude that adult education can serve as an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of basic machine tool operation. It will recommend that adult education and vocational programmes provide adequate workshop equipment, practical demonstrations, supervised hands-on activities, instructional materials, and appropriate safety guidance. Strengthening these learning opportunities can improve adults’ technical knowledge, support vocational skill development, and enhance their ability to operate basic machine tools appropriately and safely in relevant workshop activities.
