Effect of Adult Learning on Adults’ Knowledge of Video Camera Operation

Abstract

Adult learning provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and skills that can enhance their participation in creative, vocational, communication, and media-related activities. Video camera operation involves knowledge of camera components, controls, recording procedures, camera handling, framing, focus adjustment, exposure, and basic maintenance. However, some adults may have limited knowledge of video camera operation due to inadequate access to structured and practical learning opportunities. This study therefore examines the effect of adult learning on adults’ knowledge of video camera operation. Adult learning programmes can provide practical and experience-based learning through demonstrations, guided practice, discussions, illustrations, and supervised activities. In video camera learning, adults can be introduced to camera components and functions, basic camera controls, battery and storage management, recording procedures, framing and composition, focus adjustment, and appropriate handling techniques. These learning experiences can enable adults to connect theoretical explanations with practical activities and develop a better understanding of how video cameras are operated effectively. Adults’ knowledge of video camera operation refers to their understanding of the components, controls, procedures, and practices required to use a video camera effectively. Adequate knowledge is important because incorrect camera settings, poor handling, improper framing, inappropriate focus, and inadequate equipment care can affect the quality of recorded video content. Adult learning may therefore improve adults’ knowledge by providing structured instruction, practical demonstrations, and opportunities to observe and practise appropriate camera operation procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected adult learning or vocational programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure adults’ knowledge of video camera operation. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult learning on adults’ knowledge of video camera operation. The study is expected to establish that participation in adult learning has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of video camera operation. Adults exposed to structured learning activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of camera components, controls, recording procedures, framing, focus adjustment, equipment handling, and basic maintenance. The findings may further indicate that practical demonstrations and supervised hands-on activities enhance adults’ ability to understand and retain knowledge relating to video camera operation. The study will conclude that adult learning can serve as an effective avenue for improving adults’ knowledge of video camera operation. It will recommend that adult learning programmes provide access to functional video cameras, appropriate instructional materials, practical demonstrations, and supervised hands-on activities. Strengthening these learning opportunities can improve adults’ media-related knowledge, support practical skill development, and enhance their ability to operate video cameras effectively for personal, vocational, educational, and community communication purposes.
