Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Podcast Production

Abstract

The study will examine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of podcast production. Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire relevant knowledge and practical digital competencies that can support participation in contemporary communication and learning environments. Podcasting has become an accessible means of sharing educational discussions, interviews, stories, explanations, and other forms of audio information with specific audiences. However, limited knowledge of podcast production may prevent adults from understanding how podcasts are planned, recorded, edited, published, and presented effectively. The study will therefore investigate the extent to which adult education can improve adults’ knowledge of podcast production. Adult education provides structured learning experiences that recognize adults’ previous knowledge, experiences, interests, and practical needs. Through appropriate learning activities, adults can be introduced to the major processes involved in podcast production, including topic selection, audience identification, content planning, scripting, recording, editing, and distribution. Learning activities can also expose adults to basic recording equipment, audio software, podcast hosting platforms, and appropriate communication techniques. Practical demonstrations, guided activities, discussions, and collaborative exercises can help adults develop a clearer understanding of how different stages of podcast production are connected. Knowledge of podcast production involves understanding the procedures, tools, techniques, and considerations required to develop and distribute podcast episodes. Adults with adequate knowledge may be able to identify suitable podcast topics, organize content, prepare interview questions, understand basic audio-recording requirements, recognize common editing processes, and explain how podcast episodes can be distributed to intended audiences. Adult education can strengthen this knowledge by providing relevant information and opportunities for learners to examine podcast examples, practise production-related activities, and relate podcasting concepts to their own communication and learning interests. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to measure participants’ knowledge of podcast production. The research instrument will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while its reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of podcast production. The study is expected to establish that adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of podcast production. It is anticipated that adults who participate in relevant educational activities will demonstrate improved understanding of podcast planning, content development, audio recording, editing, publishing, and audience engagement. The study may also establish that practical learning experiences enable adults to connect theoretical knowledge about podcasting with the actual processes involved in developing and distributing podcast episodes. The findings are expected to have implications for Adult Education practitioners, facilitators, and programme developers. Adult Education programmes may incorporate podcast production concepts and practical activities into relevant learning experiences to help adults understand emerging digital communication opportunities. Facilitators can use demonstrations, podcast analysis, group discussions, production exercises, and guided projects to strengthen participants’ knowledge. Such approaches can make adult education more responsive to changing communication technologies while encouraging adults to explore podcasting as a tool for education, information sharing, and community communication. The study will be significant to adult learners, Adult Education practitioners, community organizations, digital-content creators, and other stakeholders interested in contemporary learning and communication. It is recommended that Adult Education programmes provide relevant learning opportunities through which adults can acquire knowledge of podcast planning, production, editing, and distribution. The study will conclude that appropriate adult education can improve adults’ understanding of podcast production and strengthen their capacity to participate meaningfully in emerging audio-based communication and learning environments.
