Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Formal Meeting Presentation Techniques
Abstract
Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and competencies that can improve their participation in workplace, community, organizational, and professional activities. Formal meeting presentation techniques refer to the knowledge and methods required to present information, ideas, reports, or proposals effectively during structured meetings. These techniques may include organizing presentation content, introducing a topic appropriately, using clear language, maintaining logical sequence, managing time, and responding appropriately to questions. This study will examine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of formal meeting presentation techniques. Adult education can expose learners to presentation skills through discussions, demonstrations, role-playing, group activities, practical presentations, and feedback sessions. Such activities can provide adults with opportunities to observe effective presentation practices and apply them in simulated meeting situations. Learning experiences may cover the preparation of presentation materials, organization of key points, appropriate delivery methods, audience engagement, and effective responses to questions. Through repeated practice, adults can develop greater awareness of the procedures and techniques required for formal presentations. Knowledge of formal meeting presentation techniques involves adults’ understanding of how to prepare and deliver information appropriately within a structured meeting environment. It includes knowledge of presentation planning, logical organization of ideas, appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication, time management, audience awareness, and proper handling of questions or contributions from participants. Adequate knowledge of these techniques can improve the quality of communication during organizational and community meetings. Adult education may therefore strengthen such knowledge by providing structured opportunities to learn, practise, and evaluate formal presentation procedures. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education, workplace learning, and community development programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure participants’ knowledge of formal meeting presentation techniques. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of formal meeting presentation techniques. The study is expected to establish that adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of formal meeting presentation techniques. Adults exposed to relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of presentation preparation, organization of information, delivery techniques, audience engagement, time management, and appropriate responses during formal meetings. The study is also expected to indicate that practical activities such as role-playing, simulated meetings, and presentation exercises can make formal presentation techniques easier for adults to understand and apply. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, facilitators, workplace trainers, community development educators, and programme planners. Adult learning programmes should incorporate practical presentation activities that allow participants to prepare and deliver short presentations within simulated formal meeting environments. Facilitators should also provide constructive feedback on organization, communication, timing, audience engagement, and question-handling to strengthen learners’ understanding of effective presentation practices. The study will be significant to adult learners, employees, community leaders, organizational participants, educators, and other stakeholders who engage in formal meetings and presentations. It will recommend that Adult Education programmes provide practical and structured learning activities on formal meeting presentation techniques. The study will conclude that appropriate adult education can improve adults’ knowledge of formal presentation practices and enhance their preparedness to communicate ideas, reports, and proposals effectively during structured meetings.
