CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The employability of graduates from the Faculty of Education is a critical area of concern in the field of education. Employability refers to the ability of graduates to secure and maintain employment that is in line with their qualifications and skills. In the context of the Faculty of Education, this encompasses not only the academic knowledge acquired during their studies but also the practical skills, competencies, and attitudes necessary for success in the teaching profession. 1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

There is a growing concern regarding the employability of graduates from the Faculty of Education, stemming from uncertainties about the alignment between their skills and the demands of the job market. Stakeholders have raised questions about whether graduates possess the necessary competencies, including pedagogical knowledge, practical teaching skills, and adaptability to diverse educational environments. 1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The main objective of this study is to determine the evaluation of graduates employability of faculty of education students

Specific objectives include;

1. To assess the current employability status of graduates from the Faculty of Education.

2. To identify the key factors influencing the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

3. To propose recommendations for enhancing the employability prospects of Faculty of Education graduates.

1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1. What is the current employability status of graduates from the Faculty of Education?

3. What strategies can be implemented to improve the employability prospects of Faculty of Education graduates?

1.5 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES

1. H0: There is no significant relationship between the curriculum content and the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

   H1: There is a significant relationship between the curriculum content and the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

2. H0: Practical training opportunities do not significantly impact the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

   H1: Practical training opportunities significantly impact the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

3. H0: Collaboration between educational institutions and industry stakeholders does not significantly enhance the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

   H1: Collaboration between educational institutions and industry stakeholders significantly enhances the employability of Faculty of Education graduates.

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this study lies in its potential to address critical issues affecting graduates from the Faculty of Education and the broader education sector. By evaluating the employability of Faculty of Education students, the research can inform policy makers, educators, and stakeholders about the effectiveness of current educational practices in preparing graduates for the workforce. 1.7 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

This study focuses on evaluating the employability of graduates from the Faculty of Education at the College of Education, Zuba, Abuja. It encompasses an analysis of factors influencing graduates' employability, including curriculum content, practical training opportunities, industry collaborations, and job market dynamics. The scope extends to exploring strategies for enhancing graduates' employability prospects within the context of the College of Education, Zuba, Abuja.

1.8 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

Despite efforts to ensure comprehensiveness, this study acknowledges certain limitations. These include potential constraints in accessing data due to confidentiality agreements, limited generalizability of findings beyond the College of Education, Zuba, Abuja, and potential biases in participant responses. Additionally, the study's timeframe and resource constraints may limit the depth of analysis and scope of recommendations. Furthermore, external factors such as economic conditions and policy changes may influence the findings but are beyond the study's control.

1.9 DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. Employability: The ability of graduates to secure and retain employment, encompassing their possession of relevant skills, knowledge, and attributes sought by employers.

2. Faculty of Education: A division within a university or educational institution dedicated to the training and preparation of future educators, including teachers, administrators, and educational specialists.
