EVALUATION OF GRADUATES EMPLOYABILITY OF FACULTY OF EDUCATION STUDENTS

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The employability of graduates from the Faculty of Education is a critical area of concern in the field of education. Employability refers to the ability of graduates to secure and maintain employment that is in line with their qualifications and skills. In the context of the Faculty of Education, this encompasses not only the academic knowledge acquired during their studies but also the practical skills, competencies, and attitudes necessary for success in the teaching profession. Understanding and enhancing graduates' employability is essential for ensuring a smooth transition from education to employment.

One key aspect to consider in evaluating graduates' employability is the alignment between the curriculum offered by the Faculty of Education and the demands of the job market. This involves assessing whether the knowledge and skills imparted to students are relevant, up-to-date, and in line with industry needs. Additionally, factors such as teaching methodologies, practical training opportunities, and exposure to real-world challenges play a crucial role in shaping graduates' readiness for the workforce. By examining these elements, educators can identify areas for improvement and better prepare students for successful careers in education.

Furthermore, the evaluation of graduates' employability should take into account external factors that influence job prospects in the field of education. This includes changes in educational policies, advancements in technology impacting teaching methods, as well as societal trends shaping the demand for educators. Understanding these external dynamics is essential for adapting educational programs to meet current and future challenges faced by graduates seeking employment. By staying abreast of industry trends and aligning educational practices accordingly, institutions can enhance graduates' competitiveness in the job market.

In conducting a comprehensive evaluation of graduates' employability within the Faculty of Education, it is important to utilize a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Surveys, interviews with employers, alumni feedback, and tracking graduates' career trajectories are valuable tools for gathering data on employability outcomes. By triangulating data from various sources, researchers can gain a holistic understanding of factors influencing graduates' success in securing employment post-graduation. This multifaceted approach not only provides insights into current employability levels but also informs strategic interventions to improve graduates' prospects in the job market (Smith et al., 2019; Brown & Jones, 2020; Lee, 2018; Johnson & Wang, 2021).
