Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage labelling. Proper storage labelling is important for identifying stored agricultural produce, maintaining accurate storage information, supporting stock management, and facilitating timely monitoring of stored products. Farmers’ knowledge of appropriate labelling practices can contribute to improved storage organization, traceability, and reduction of errors during handling and marketing. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of identifying stored produce through labels, recording product names, storage dates, quantities, batch information, source details, and other relevant information. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of appropriate label placement, readability, durability, updating of labels, and the importance of using accurate storage information to support stock monitoring and produce management. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers involved in the storage and management of agricultural produce in the selected study area. A suitable sampling procedure will be used to select respondents, while data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage labelling. Data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage labelling and identify areas where knowledge may be inadequate. It is also expected to show farmers’ understanding of the information required on storage labels, proper label placement, updating of storage information, and the use of labels for identifying and monitoring stored produce. The findings will be useful to agricultural extension officers, agricultural development agencies, farmers’ organizations, and other stakeholders involved in post-harvest management. The study will provide information that can guide the development of extension programmes and practical training aimed at improving farmers’ knowledge of storage labelling and strengthening the organization and monitoring of stored agricultural produce. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of storage labelling is important for effective produce identification, storage organization, and inventory management. It will recommend that agricultural extension services should provide farmers with practical training, demonstrations, and technical information on accurate labelling, proper label placement, storage information recording, and regular updating of labels to improve agricultural storage practices.
