Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage inspection checklists. Storage inspection checklists are useful tools for guiding systematic examination of stored agricultural produce and storage facilities. Farmers’ knowledge of inspection checklists can support regular monitoring, early identification of storage problems, proper documentation, and timely corrective actions that help maintain produce quality and reduce post-harvest losses. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of the purpose and use of storage inspection checklists, including checking produce condition, storage cleanliness, pest presence, moisture levels, ventilation, stacking arrangements, storage temperature, packaging condition, and signs of deterioration. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of recording inspection dates, identified problems, corrective measures taken, and follow-up observations during routine storage inspections. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers involved in the storage and management of agricultural produce in the selected study area. A suitable sampling procedure will be used to select respondents, while data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage inspection checklists. Data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce storage inspection checklists and identify areas where knowledge may be inadequate. It is also expected to show farmers’ understanding of the different items that should be included in an inspection checklist, proper completion of inspection records, identification of storage problems, and the use of checklist information for storage management decisions. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of storage inspection checklists is important for effective monitoring and management of stored agricultural produce. It will recommend that agricultural extension services should provide farmers with practical training, demonstrations, and technical information on developing, completing, and using storage inspection checklists to identify problems early and improve storage management.
