Abstract
The study will assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce stock counting. Accurate stock counting is important for determining the quantity of agricultural produce available in storage, maintaining reliable inventory records, identifying discrepancies, and supporting effective storage and marketing decisions. Farmers’ knowledge of proper stock counting methods can therefore contribute to improved inventory management and reduction of avoidable storage losses. The study will focus on farmers’ knowledge of counting stored produce, recording quantities accurately, distinguishing different produce categories, updating stock records, verifying physical quantities against recorded figures, and conducting periodic stock counts. It will also examine farmers’ understanding of the importance of accurate counting, proper documentation, identification of stock shortages or excesses, and timely correction of discrepancies in agricultural produce inventories. A descriptive survey research design will be adopted for the study. The population will comprise farmers involved in the storage and management of agricultural produce in the selected study area. A suitable sampling procedure will be used to select respondents, while data will be collected through a structured questionnaire designed to assess farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce stock counting. Data collected will be analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The study is expected to reveal the level of farmers’ knowledge of agricultural produce stock counting and identify areas where knowledge may be inadequate. It is also expected to show farmers’ understanding of counting procedures, stock recording, physical verification, inventory updating, and the identification of discrepancies between actual stock and recorded quantities. The study will provide information that can guide the development of extension programmes and practical training aimed at improving farmers’ knowledge of stock counting and strengthening inventory management practices. The study will conclude that adequate knowledge of agricultural produce stock counting is important for effective inventory control and proper management of stored produce. It will recommend that agricultural extension services should provide farmers with practical training, demonstrations, and technical information on accurate stock counting, record updating, physical stock verification, and discrepancy identification to improve storage and inventory management.
