Abstract
Renewable-energy education refers to organized learning activities that provide adults with knowledge about renewable energy sources, their applications, benefits, limitations, and appropriate use, while acceptance of solar energy refers to adults’ willingness to recognize, consider, support, and adopt solar energy as an alternative or complementary energy source. Solar energy can provide households and communities with an alternative means of meeting energy needs while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. However, inadequate knowledge, misconceptions, and limited awareness may influence adults’ willingness to accept solar energy. This study therefore aims to examine the impact of renewable-energy education on adults’ acceptance of solar energy. Renewable-energy education can expose adults to information about solar energy generation, solar technologies, potential applications, environmental benefits, economic considerations, maintenance requirements, and factors that influence effective use. Through discussions, demonstrations, instructional materials, practical activities, and community-based learning, adults can gain clearer knowledge of how solar energy systems operate and how they may be applied to household and community energy needs. Such education can also provide opportunities for adults to examine common misconceptions surrounding solar energy. Acceptance of solar energy involves adults’ willingness to consider solar energy as a viable energy option, recognize its potential benefits, express positive attitudes toward its use, and show readiness to support or adopt appropriate solar-energy solutions. Adults who receive relevant renewable-energy education may develop greater understanding and more favourable attitudes toward solar energy. The study will therefore investigate whether renewable-energy education contributes to increased acceptance of solar energy among adults. The study will adopt an appropriate research design, such as a descriptive survey or quasi-experimental design, depending on the study setting. The population will comprise selected adult learners, from whom a representative sample will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique. Data will be collected using a structured questionnaire designed to assess exposure to renewable-energy education and adults’ acceptance of solar energy. The data obtained will be analysed using suitable descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The study is expected to establish that exposure to renewable-energy education increases adults’ acceptance of solar energy. Adults who receive relevant education are expected to demonstrate greater knowledge of solar energy, more favourable attitudes toward its use, and stronger willingness to consider solar energy as an alternative or complementary energy source. These expected findings would highlight the importance of adult education in promoting informed acceptance of renewable-energy technologies. The findings will have implications for the teaching and learning of environmental and energy-related issues within adult education programmes. Adult educators can incorporate demonstrations, practical examples, visual materials, discussions, and community-based learning activities into renewable-energy education. Such approaches can make solar-energy concepts easier to understand and enable adults to evaluate its applications based on accurate information rather than misconceptions. The study will be beneficial to adult learners, adult educators, households, community organizations, renewable-energy stakeholders, environmental educators, and policymakers. Adults may develop improved knowledge for making informed decisions about solar energy, while educators may gain useful information for designing effective renewable-energy learning programmes. Community organizations and relevant stakeholders may also use the findings to strengthen public education and awareness initiatives concerning renewable-energy options. The study recommends that adult education programmes should provide accessible and practical renewable-energy education that explains solar-energy technologies, applications, benefits, limitations, costs, and maintenance considerations. Demonstrations, practical activities, community discussions, and appropriate instructional materials should be used to strengthen understanding and encourage informed attitudes. The study concludes that effective renewable-energy education can improve adults’ knowledge and acceptance of solar energy and contribute to greater awareness and consideration of renewable-energy alternatives.
