Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Mobile Banking Procedures
Abstract
Mobile banking procedures involve the steps and practices required to access banking services through mobile devices, including account access, balance checking, transfers, bill payments, and other supported transactions. Adult Education can provide adults with the knowledge required to understand and perform these procedures appropriately and confidently. This study will examine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures, focusing on account access, transaction processes, authentication requirements, transaction confirmation, and basic security practices. The study is motivated by the increasing use of mobile banking services and the need to strengthen adults’ knowledge for safe and effective participation in digital financial activities. Adult Education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge through demonstrations, guided practice, discussions, simulations, and technology-supported learning activities. In relation to mobile banking, educational activities can introduce adults to the basic procedures involved in accessing mobile banking platforms and carrying out common transactions. Adults can learn how to navigate relevant banking interfaces, follow transaction steps, review transaction information, and understand confirmation messages. Practical learning can make mobile banking procedures easier to understand while allowing adults to develop confidence in using digital banking services. Adults’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures refers to their understanding of the steps, requirements, and precautions involved in using mobile banking services. Adequate knowledge can help adults understand how to initiate transactions, verify transaction details, protect authentication information, and confirm whether transactions have been successfully completed. Adult Education can strengthen this knowledge by using practical demonstrations and simulated activities that allow adults to follow procedures in a controlled learning environment. Improved knowledge may therefore support more informed and responsible use of mobile banking services. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure participants’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of Adult Education on adults’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures. The study is expected to establish that participation in Adult Education programmes has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures. Adults exposed to relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved understanding of account access, transaction initiation, authentication, transaction verification, confirmation procedures, and basic mobile banking security practices. The study may further establish that demonstrations, guided practice, and simulated transactions are effective approaches for helping adults understand mobile banking procedures and develop greater confidence in using digital banking services. The study is expected to have implications for Adult Education practitioners, financial literacy educators, community educators, banking institutions, and organisations involved in digital financial inclusion. Adult Education programmes may incorporate practical mobile banking demonstrations, simulated transaction exercises, and simple instructional materials to strengthen adults’ knowledge. Emphasis on safe authentication practices and careful verification of transaction information can further make the learning experience relevant to adults’ everyday financial activities. The study will be significant to adults, households, Adult Education practitioners, financial educators, banking institutions, and other stakeholders interested in promoting effective digital financial participation. It is expected to recommend the integration of practical mobile banking education into relevant Adult Education and financial literacy programmes, with emphasis on hands-on learning and responsible digital practices. The study will conclude that appropriate Adult Education can improve adults’ knowledge of mobile banking procedures and contribute to more confident, informed, and responsible use of mobile banking services.
