Effect of Adult Education on Adults’ Knowledge of Basic Entrepreneurship Registration Procedures

Abstract

Adult education provides opportunities for adults to acquire practical knowledge and competencies that can support entrepreneurship, self-employment, and participation in economic activities. Basic entrepreneurship registration procedures involve the essential steps and requirements associated with formally establishing a business or enterprise, including identifying the appropriate registration process, preparing required information, completing relevant forms, and obtaining necessary registration documentation. However, inadequate knowledge of these procedures may discourage adults from formalizing their entrepreneurial activities. This study will examine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic entrepreneurship registration procedures. Adult education can expose learners to practical entrepreneurial concepts through discussions, demonstrations, case studies, guided exercises, and business-related learning activities. In relation to registration procedures, learning activities can introduce adults to the importance of business formalization, basic registration requirements, relevant documentation, procedural steps, and the responsibilities associated with maintaining a registered enterprise. Practical exercises can also enable learners to examine sample registration information and understand how different stages of the registration process are connected. Knowledge of basic entrepreneurship registration procedures refers to adults’ ability to identify and explain the essential steps involved in registering an entrepreneurial venture. This knowledge includes recognizing relevant registration requirements, identifying information and documents that may be needed, understanding basic application procedures, and recognizing the importance of obtaining appropriate registration evidence. Adequate knowledge can help adults approach business formalization with greater confidence and reduce uncertainty surrounding registration activities. Adult education may therefore contribute to improved knowledge by presenting registration concepts in a structured and practical manner. The study will adopt a suitable descriptive survey research design. The population will comprise adults participating in selected Adult Education, entrepreneurship, and business-skills programmes, from which an appropriate sample will be selected using a suitable sampling procedure. Data will be collected through a structured questionnaire and an appropriate knowledge assessment designed to measure participants’ knowledge of basic entrepreneurship registration procedures. The research instruments will be subjected to appropriate validation procedures, while their reliability will be established before administration. Data collected will be analysed using relevant descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to determine the effect of adult education on adults’ knowledge of basic entrepreneurship registration procedures. The study is expected to establish that adult education has a positive effect on adults’ knowledge of basic entrepreneurship registration procedures. Adults who participate in relevant educational activities are expected to demonstrate improved knowledge of registration requirements, procedural stages, documentation, and basic formalization processes. The study is also expected to indicate that practical learning approaches, particularly demonstrations and guided registration exercises, can make entrepreneurship registration concepts easier for adult learners to understand and apply. The findings will have implications for Adult Education practitioners, entrepreneurship educators, business trainers, enterprise-development facilitators, and programme planners. Adult education programmes should incorporate practical information on business formalization and registration procedures into entrepreneurship-related learning activities. Providing adults with structured examples, guided exercises, and realistic registration scenarios may improve their confidence and preparedness when seeking to establish formal entrepreneurial ventures. The study will be significant to adult learners, aspiring entrepreneurs, small-business operators, entrepreneurship training providers, and stakeholders involved in enterprise development. It will recommend that adult education programmes provide accessible, practical, and clearly structured learning activities on basic entrepreneurship registration procedures. The study will conclude that appropriate adult education can strengthen adults’ knowledge of entrepreneurship registration processes and support their ability to make informed decisions when formalizing their business activities.
