Abstract
Power outage duration refers to the length of time for which electricity supply is interrupted following a failure or disruption in an energy system. The duration of an outage is an important consideration in energy insurance because prolonged interruptions may result in greater financial losses, equipment damage, business interruption, and additional expenses. Variations in outage duration may therefore influence the amount of compensation payable under energy insurance policies and the overall cost of insurance claims. This study will examine the effect of power outage duration on energy insurance claim costs. It will assess how variations in the length of electricity interruptions influence the financial value of insurance claims arising from power outages. The study will also compare claim costs across different outage durations and determine the extent to which the duration of power interruptions affects insurers’ claims exposure. The study will focus on power outage duration, energy insurance claim costs, electricity interruptions, energy insurance, business interruption losses, equipment damage, repair costs, replacement costs, claim frequency, claim severity, insured losses, and actuarial claims analysis. Relevant outage and insurance claims data will be examined to identify patterns in outage duration and their relationship with claim costs. The study concludes that power outage duration is an important factor in energy insurance claim cost estimation because the length of an electricity interruption can influence the extent of financial losses and associated insurance payments. It is therefore recommended that insurers monitor outage duration patterns, maintain accurate claims and interruption records, incorporate duration-related factors into actuarial models, and conduct sensitivity analysis to support accurate and sustainable energy insurance claim cost estimation.
