Effect of Policyholder Gender on Life Insurance Survival Probabilities

Abstract

Survival probabilities are an important component of life insurance actuarial analysis because they provide estimates of the likelihood that policyholders will remain alive over specified periods. These probabilities are used in determining the expected timing of insurance benefits, premiums, reserves, and other long-term financial obligations. Differences in mortality experience between demographic groups can therefore influence the estimation of survival probabilities used in life insurance valuation. The study examines the effect of policyholder gender on life insurance survival probabilities. It will assess whether differences in mortality and survival experience between male and female policyholders produce variations in estimated survival probabilities. The study will focus on age-specific survival rates, mortality rates, policy duration, age at policy entry, and other relevant demographic characteristics in analysing life insurance survival patterns. The study will further compare survival probabilities across male and female policyholders at different ages and policy durations. Life table techniques and actuarial survival models will be applied to estimate and compare the probability of survival over specified periods. The findings may indicate variations in survival patterns associated with differences in observed mortality experience. The study may also demonstrate that the magnitude of these differences varies across age groups and changes over the duration of the insurance policy. The study will provide useful information to actuaries, life insurance companies, insurance pricing analysts, and researchers involved in mortality and survival analysis. The findings may support the development of more appropriate mortality assumptions and improve the accuracy of survival probability estimates used in life insurance valuation. The study may also contribute to better understanding of demographic differences in life insurance risk assessment. The study concludes that policyholder gender can be an important demographic consideration when analysing survival probabilities for life insurance purposes. It is therefore recommended that insurers and actuaries carefully evaluate relevant mortality experience and apply appropriate actuarial techniques when estimating survival probabilities. Regular review of demographic mortality data may improve the reliability of life insurance valuation, premium calculation, and reserve estimation.
