Effect of Policy Anniversary Periods on Life Insurance Cash Flows

Abstract

Policy anniversary periods refer to the recurring dates or periods marking the completion of successive years or specified durations of a life insurance contract. These periods may be associated with premium adjustments, benefit payments, bonuses, policy reviews, or other contractual transactions. The timing of such events can influence the pattern of cash inflows and outflows associated with life insurance policies and is therefore relevant to actuarial cash flow projections. This study will examine the effect of policy anniversary periods on life insurance cash flows. It will assess how the timing and frequency of anniversary-related policy events influence the amount and distribution of expected premium receipts and benefit payments. The study will also examine the relationship between policy anniversary periods, policy duration, premium payments, benefit structures, and projected life insurance cash flows. The study will focus on policy anniversary periods, life insurance cash flows, policy duration, premium payments, benefit payments, anniversary benefits, policy bonuses, cash flow timing, mortality assumptions, survival probabilities, and actuarial valuation. Actuarial cash flow projection techniques will be used to estimate future policy-related inflows and outflows under different anniversary period assumptions. Comparative and sensitivity analyses will also be applied to evaluate changes in projected cash flows. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant life insurance policy, premium, benefit, anniversary, mortality, survival, and cash flow data will be analysed using descriptive statistics, anniversary period analysis, actuarial cash flow projections, trend analysis, comparative analysis, scenario analysis, and sensitivity analysis. Different policy anniversary periods will be evaluated to determine their influence on the timing and value of projected life insurance cash flows. The study is expected to reveal that policy anniversary periods may have a significant effect on life insurance cash flows. Anniversary-related payments or adjustments may create identifiable patterns in premium inflows and benefit outflows, while changes in the timing of anniversary events may alter the distribution of expected cash flows across policy years. The magnitude of the effect may depend on policy duration, premium payment frequency, benefit amounts, anniversary provisions, mortality and survival assumptions, and interest rates. The study will be useful to actuaries, life insurance companies, underwriters, product developers, financial managers, portfolio managers, and insurance valuation specialists. It may provide useful information for projecting policy cash flows, planning liquidity requirements, managing premium receipts and benefit payments, evaluating policy structures, and improving actuarial financial planning. The findings may also assist insurers in understanding the financial implications of anniversary-related contractual events. The study concludes that policy anniversary periods are important considerations in life insurance cash flow projections because anniversary-related transactions can influence the timing and distribution of future premium and benefit cash flows. It is therefore recommended that insurers incorporate accurate anniversary assumptions into actuarial cash flow models, regularly review anniversary-related policy provisions, and conduct sensitivity analysis to assess their effects on projected life insurance cash flows.
