Abstract
Individual level premium methods are actuarial approaches used to determine the level of contributions required to finance an employee’s expected pension benefits over the period before retirement. Their application can influence the pattern and level of pension costs and liabilities recognised under defined benefit pension schemes. This study will examine the effect of individual level premium methods on pension liability estimates. It is therefore recommended that organisations and pension administrators apply appropriate actuarial assumptions consistently and conduct regular valuations to support accurate pension liability estimates and effective long-term pension funding.
