Effect of Claims Verification on Insurance Fraud Detection
Abstract
The study examines the effect of claims verification on insurance fraud detection, focusing on how the process of examining and validating insurance claims can assist insurers in identifying fraudulent, exaggerated, or irregular claims. Claims verification is an important aspect of insurance claims management because insurers rely on accurate information and supporting evidence to determine the legitimacy of claims. Effective verification can help reduce fraudulent payments, control claims expenditure, and protect the financial stability of insurance companies. The study will investigate the effect of claims verification on insurance fraud detection by examining the relationship between verification practices and the identification of suspicious or fraudulent claims. It will consider procedures such as document verification, policy validation, claims history checks, assessment of supporting evidence, and confirmation of the circumstances surrounding reported losses. The study will also assess how effective verification procedures contribute to the timely identification and prevention of fraudulent insurance claims. The study will further examine factors that may influence the effectiveness of claims verification in detecting insurance fraud. Particular attention will be given to the accuracy of claims documentation, availability of policyholder information, claims investigation procedures, staff competence, data analysis, and the use of technological tools. Understanding these factors may enable insurers to identify weaknesses in existing verification processes and strengthen their ability to detect fraudulent activities. A quantitative research approach will be adopted for the study. Relevant data on verified claims, suspected fraudulent claims, confirmed fraudulent claims, rejected claims, claims expenditure, and claims verification activities will be collected and analyzed. Descriptive statistics, trend analysis, correlation analysis, and regression techniques may be employed to determine the relationship between claims verification and insurance fraud detection. Comparative analysis may also be used to examine fraud detection outcomes under different verification practices. The study is expected to reveal that effective claims verification has a significant positive effect on insurance fraud detection. Improved verification procedures are expected to increase the identification of suspicious claims and reduce the likelihood of fraudulent claims being approved for payment. The findings may also indicate that inadequate verification processes can create opportunities for fraudulent activities and increase insurers’ exposure to unnecessary claims losses. The study is further expected to establish that strengthening claims verification can improve fraud detection, reduce claims leakage, and enhance the overall efficiency of insurance claims management. The findings may assist insurance companies in improving verification procedures, strengthening staff capacity, integrating reliable data systems, and adopting appropriate technologies for identifying unusual claims patterns. These measures may contribute to better fraud prevention and improved financial performance. The study concludes that effective claims verification is essential for detecting and controlling insurance fraud because accurate validation of claims can reduce fraudulent payments and unnecessary claims expenditure. It is therefore recommended that insurance companies strengthen their verification systems through improved documentation procedures, staff training, data analysis, and appropriate technological applications. These measures will help insurers detect fraudulent claims more effectively, reduce financial losses, and strengthen the sustainability of insurance operations.
