Abstract

The study examines the effect of claims investigation on insurance loss experience, focusing on how the effectiveness and thoroughness of investigating insurance claims influence the level and pattern of losses incurred by insurance companies. Claims investigation is an important component of insurance claims management because it helps insurers verify the validity of claims, determine the circumstances surrounding losses, and identify claims that may involve inaccurate or fraudulent information. Effective investigation can therefore contribute to improved loss control and financial performance. The study will investigate the effect of claims investigation on insurance loss experience by examining the relationship between claims investigation practices and indicators such as claims frequency, claims severity, claims expenditure, and loss ratios. It will assess how the quality and efficiency of investigation procedures influence the amount of claims ultimately paid by insurers. The study will also consider the role of investigation in ensuring that claims settlements are based on accurate and adequately verified information. The study will further examine factors that may influence the effectiveness of claims investigation and their implications for insurance losses. It is therefore recommended that insurers strengthen claims investigation procedures through improved documentation, staff training, effective verification systems, and appropriate technological applications. These measures will help reduce avoidable claims losses, improve loss ratios, and strengthen the financial performance of insurance companies.
