Relationship Between Shoulder Position and Cervical Posture Among Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between shoulder position and cervical posture among undergraduate students. Shoulder position is an important component of upper body alignment, while cervical posture describes the positioning of the neck and cervical region in relation to the head and trunk. Assessing the relationship between these characteristics may provide useful information on postural variations among young adults. The study will assess shoulder position and cervical posture among undergraduate students using standardized postural assessment procedures. Shoulder position will be evaluated using appropriate anatomical landmarks and measurements, while cervical posture will be assessed using suitable reference points and standardized observational or angular measurement techniques. The measurements obtained will be used to determine the relationship between shoulder position and cervical posture. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. Undergraduate students who meet the inclusion criteria will be selected using an appropriate sampling procedure. Postural measurements will be obtained under standardized conditions to ensure consistency and accuracy. The data will be analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, while correlation analysis will be used to determine the relationship between shoulder position and cervical posture. The study is expected to reveal variations in shoulder position and cervical posture among the participating undergraduate students. It is also expected to demonstrate the nature and strength of the relationship between the two postural characteristics. Differences in cervical posture may be observed among students with varying shoulder positions. The findings of the study are expected to provide useful information for anatomists, physiotherapists, ergonomists, clinicians, sports professionals, and researchers interested in posture and musculoskeletal alignment. The findings may also contribute to the understanding of upper body postural characteristics among young adults and provide baseline information for future studies involving cervical and shoulder alignment. The study will conclude by highlighting the observed relationship between shoulder position and cervical posture among undergraduate students. It will recommend the use of standardized postural assessment procedures and encourage further research involving larger and more diverse populations to provide broader information on upper body alignment and postural variation.
