Morphometric Assessment of the Interspinales Muscles of the Cervical Region Among Young Adults

Abstract

The study examines the morphometric characteristics of the interspinales muscles of the cervical region among young adults, with emphasis on their measurable dimensions and anatomical variation. The interspinales are small paired muscles located between the spinous processes of adjacent vertebrae and contribute to movements and stabilization of the vertebral column. In the cervical region, these muscles are closely related to the posterior elements of the cervical vertebrae, making their anatomical characteristics relevant to the understanding of cervical spine structure and function. The study will assess selected morphometric parameters of the cervical interspinales muscles using standardized anatomical landmarks and appropriate measurement procedures. The specific objectives will include determining the length, width, and thickness of the muscles at selected cervical levels, establishing the mean and range of the measured dimensions, documenting variations in their morphology, and comparing the observed measurements between different cervical levels and corresponding sides where applicable. The study will also assess the pattern of variation in the measured parameters among the study population. A cross-sectional descriptive research design will be adopted for the study. An appropriate sample of young adults or suitable anatomical specimens will be selected using an appropriate sampling technique, depending on the assessment method employed.
